Rolf Structural Integration is a bodywork therapy which aligns and balances the body by lengthening
and repositioning imbalances in the connective tissue system called fascia. Pressure is applied to areas
where the fascia has shortened or tightened, working the entire fascial system in a systemic way. As
the fasica is lengthened and mobilized the muscles and joints move more efficiently and the body can
return to its structurally optimal position. When a body is aligned and balanced it moves with greater
ease and requires less energy to function within the gravitational field. Find out more.... The Guild for
Structural Integration.
What is Rolf Structural Integration?
|
The circumstances which pull the body out of alignment are the result of physical injuries, emotional
gradually shortens, tightens, and adjust to accommodate the misalignment. This creates an imbalance
and inefficiency within the entire system and results in stiffness, discomfort, and loss of energy. Gravity
then becomes an obstacle to physical and psychological well being.
By lengthening and opening the imbalance in the connective tissue, gravity flows through the individual.
Good posture is effortless and breathing is easier. The body becomes more flexible, coordinated and
personal potential is enhanced.

Rolf Structural Integration is performed in a series of ten sessions. The ten sessions is administered
progressively: each session builds upon the accomplishments of the previous one until complete
integration of the body is achieved. This process balances the body around vertical axis in three
dimensional space.
As a practitioner, Matthew will observe an individual, how they stand, walk and other general
movements. Participation in each session is important, assisting by breathing into an area being
worked on, making subtle, specific movements as necessary and being aware of how their body
reacts to the work. During the session an individual may experience a warm, pleasant sensation from
the area being worked with. Some do not encounter any sensation, while others may experience
momentary discomfort.
Matthew applies appropriate pressure based on needs and feedback. He helps individuals to become
cognizant of habitual movement patterns and imbalances in their body while assisting them to correct
these patterns in their daily life and personal activities.
Rolf Structural Integration is a very personal process. It is important to remember that because no
two people are alike, experiences and benefits will never be exactly the same. Clients continually
report positive changes, stating less stress, greater self-confidence and improved ability to handle
life's challenges.
